Francis Xavier was born on April 7th 1506 in the family castle near Pamplona in Navarre, Spain. Francis was not a poor person. He family was very wealthy as you can see by the picture of his home and castle. He was baptized in the Church of St. Mary. He was the youngest son of Juan de Jaso who was a privy councilor to King John the III of Navarre. In 1516 Francis’s father died when he was nine years old. The area where Francis lived was invaded and connquered and the Spanish Castilian kingdom's Governor, Cardinal Cisneros, ordered family lands to be confiscated during the invasions. He remained in the family castle until he was 19 when he went to Paris to study.
